Kansas, Part 3 - Kansas Rocks Too! [240428-0501]

Image
In Parts 1 and 2, we visited 3 of the "8 Wonders of Kansas".  Before leaving the state, we managed to hit 2 more along our path - one natural, and one man-made.

Kansas, Part 2 - Exploring the Salty, Wet, Seamy Underbelly of Kansas [240425-27]

In this post, we visit not one but two  more of the "8 Wonders of Kansas" - both of which happen to be underground.

Kansas, Part 1 - Short Grass, Fluffy Cows, and Giant Mushrooms [240423-25]

We're spending a bit of time in Kansas, so our time here will be split across a few posts.  This first one will cover our first couple of days.

Missouri, Part 3 - Hiking the Dragon [240417-23]

Image
The shape of the Lake of the Ozarks has earned it the nickname "the Missouri Dragon"; looking at an aerial or map view can show you why.  Our week stay here marked a change in the pace of our trip so far:  having gotten passed the pre-scheduled activities in Lampasas and St. Louis, the long hectic days spent driving in the car gave way to more relaxing days spent out "doing other things".

Missouri, Part 2 - Arches, Bikes, and a Herd of Deer [240416-17]

Image
Our activity for the Tuesday was a visit to the Gateway Arch National Park.  Weather has not necessarily been our friend for our "scheduled" days on this trip; like the Eclipse Day in Lampasas, thunderstorms were forecast for our day in St. Louis.

Missouri, Part 1 - Missouri Rocks! (and a Little House) [240413-15]

We're spending a bit of time in Missouri, so our time here will be split across a few posts.  This first one will cover the first few days, before we popped out of the state for a night for lodging reasons.

Nicking Arkansas [240411-13]

Image
In making our way from Oklahoma to Missouri, our route passed through the very north-west corner of Arkansas.  We took the opportunity to stay a day and see some of the sights in the Bentonville area.

"Oklahoma, Where the Wind Comes Sweepin' Down the Plain" [240709-11]

This post covers the two days (spread across three calendar days) spent crossing Oklahoma, where we swapped out the T42 for THIS baby on Route 66. 😜

Lampasas, At Last! (The Eclipse Meet-up) [240407-09]

Image
We were pleasantly surprised to find that despite all the hype/warnings about heavy traffic being expected, the drive from Early to Lampasas took under an hour and a half.  We had finally arrived at our "first destination" in one piece! For those that don't know, our reason for making Lampasas the first scheduled destination on our Trek was an eclipse-viewing meet-up arranged through the Travato Owners and Wannabees (TOWB) Facebook Group that we (Christine) are members of.  Forty-one Travatos (carrying 70-ish people and 30-ish pets) were scheduled to attend. (The meet-up logo was designed by our talented organizer, Marilyn.)

"Blowin' in the Wind" (AZ to NM to TX) [230505-06]

Our "Hopefully not, though..." wishes for another slow slog day ended up falling on deaf ears.

"Standin' On A Corner In Winslow, Arizona" [230404]

Image
We started today's drive with the Eagles' Take It Easy playing on the radio to psych ourselves up for today's destination:  Winslow, AZ.

The "Year-long Trek Across the Country" Begins! [230403]

Well, the day has finally arrived.  After months of planning and preparation we left the comforts of home and piled into our (almost too) fully loaded van and started on the first leg of our journey toward our first stop:  Lampasas, TX to view the total eclipse next Monday.
