Facts and Figures from Month 1

Since we embarked on our Trek on April 3rd, our time in Nebraska crossed over the one month mark.  We thought you might enjoy some facts and figures from our first month on the road.

States traversed: 9 (only the last 6 shown on the map above, since it "starts" in Lampasas, TX - where one of our new friends from the Eclipse Meet-up introduced us to the "Find Penguins" app that we've been using to generate it).

For the month ending at end-of-day May 2nd:

  • Miles driven: 4,616
  • "Engine on hours" (aka "hours behind the wheel"): 99 hours, 51 minutes
  • RAM Promaster measured gas consumption: 292 gallons
  • RAM Promaster measured MPG: 15.8
As of the first gas station fill-up on May 3rd:
  • Miles driven: 4,672
  • Fuel purchased: 308 gallons
  • Calculated MPG: 15.17
  • Total fuel cost: $1,014.51
  • Average price/gal: $3.29 (note that our Costco back home was charging $5.20/gal that day)
Places we visited / stayed:
  • National Parks / Monuments / Preserves visited: 4
  • State Parks visited: 12
  • Nights in Harvest Hosts: 4
  • Nights in Walmarts: 4
  • Nights in other free locations: 3
  • Nights in state parks: 13
  • Nights in other campgrounds: 4
  • Nights in a Texas ranch (for the Eclipse): 2
  • Number of meals "out": 2
Weather stats:
  • Highest temp: 88 degrees (Dodge City, KS)
  • Lowest temp: 36 degrees (Lake of the Ozarks, MO)
  • Nights with thunderstorms: 3

RV repairs required:
  • the galley cabinet stopped latching properly, and the catch had to be shimmed higher.  We have no idea why this just started being an issue on this Trek, since all the cabinets were checked for this very thing when we bought the T42 a year ago, and Tom shimmed one of the bedroom cabinets with plastic from an old credit card for this exact same issue at that time.  Not having a credit card to spare this time, the galley catch was shimmed with cardboard from a Cheerios box.
